Diana Heilmann and János Fehér: Strengthening cooperation between river basin management planning and flood risk prevention... 41 THE AUTHORS DIANA HEILMANN graduated írom the Faculty of Water and Environmental Engineering of the Debrecen University of Agriculture and received her BSc in agricultural environmental management in 1999. Afterwards she obtained an MSc degree in agricultural economics engineering from the Institute of Environmental Management of the Szent István University, Gödöllő, Hungary in 2002. During her studies, she spent a year at the Wageningen Agricultural University as an exchange student. Following that, she earned a degree in environmental law at the ELTE Legal Training Institute in Budapest in 2005. Meanwhile, in 2002, she started to work as a staff member of Hungarian VITUKI Consult Zrt., where she worked on tasks related to the Tisza River Basin. In 2006, she joined the Secretariat of the ICPDR (International Commission for the Protection of the Danube River) and undertook the international tasks of the Tisza Group for several years. She is currently the expert of the EU Danube Region Strategy, PA4 - Water Quality Priority Area. JÁNOS FEHÉR has a civil engineering MSc degree from the Budapest University of Technology and a PhD degree from the Faculty of Agricultural and Food Sciences and Environmental Management of the University of Debrecen on agriculture-related water quality management. After graduation, he worked for VITUKI Water Management Research Institute for two periods, from 1976 to 1996 and from 2008to 2012, while from August 1996 to May 2008, he was the Chairman and General Director of a Hungarian-United Kingdom joint venture research and consultancy company called VITUKI CONSULT Ltd. He has extensive experience in European environmental policy, is involved in several European projects for the EU Commission to support the implementation of the Water Framework Directive and the River Basin Management Plans and the assessment of European surface and groundwater resources for the European Environmental Agency. He was the Hungarian National Team Leader in the European Environmental Agency’s European Topic Centre on Water project for two periods (1997-2006 and 2011-2013). He was project director of national and international projects related to some Hungarian rivers such as the Tisza, Hemád and Körös. Between 2008-2011, he was involved in designing the first Integrated Tisza River Basin Management Plan, which work was co-ordinated by ICPDR. He holds an Honorary Professor status at the University of Debrecen. He has lectured on water resources management and integrated river basin management at the University of Debrecen, the Budapest Corvinus University, and at the Szent István University, Gödöllő,. He was a member of the International Water Association (IWA), where he was Vice-Chair (2002-2008), Secretary (2008-2011) and from 2011 to 2014, the Chair of the Watershed & River Basin Management Specialist Group. Since 1977, he has been a member of the Hungarian Hydrological Society (HHS). Currently he is a member of the Presidential Council of the HHS and the Editor-in-Chief of the Hungarian Journal of Hydrology.
