Abstract: We examined the distribution of Viviparus contectus (Millet, 1813) in various Hungarian water bodies. During our long-term investigation between 1998 - 2010, 599 sample were taken and 2863 individuum were identified. We compared the average density of this species in different water body types. We analyzed the correlation between the density and background variables. According to our analysis, Viviparus contectus occurs in the moderately flowing or periodically stagnant rivers in greater density, where large a- mount of aquatic vegetation cover and great macro-organic matter and fine sediment accumulation can be found.
