Részt vett több a Vemagt gleccsere vezető expedícióban Jelenleg a Gráci Műszaki Egyetem Települési Vízgazdálkodási és Vízrendezési Intézetének oktatója. Hydrologie conditions of the Vernagt glacier Vasvári, V. Abstract: Glaciers are often mentioned as the most distinctive witnesses of the climate change. In the region of the Alps people have been living with glaciers and observing them for centuries. The periodically advancing and retreating behaviour of glaciers, occurring independently from climate change, is an especially interesting feature of the so called surging glaciers. One of this type of glaciers is the Vernagt glacier situated in the Eastern-Alps (Oetz valley/ Austria). Due to the disastrous damages caused by this glacier, its behaviour has been regularly observed and accurate described since the 17th century. These previous observations formed the basis and urged the scientists from the 1960ies on making more detailed investigations at the Vemagt glacier. Thus, the Vemagt glacier is one of the longest observed and with scientifically thoroughness investigated glaciers in the Alps. This paper presents the historical notes and the results of the hydrological and glaciologycal investigations made at this glacier the last decades.
