Improper handling and/or disposal of wastes are potential sources of grave environmental hazards. To mitigate these impacts appropriate technologies are needed, by which the volumes of wastes can be reduced, or by which the hazardous wastescomponentscan be neutralized. Besidesselectivecollection and recycling, the methodsmost frequently adopted in Germany are incineration, pyrolysis(anaerobic thermal decomposition), conversion to fuel by compression, composting and especially controlled landfilling. The latter being the cheapest and simplest, it is likely to become of interest in Hungary, too. Wastes handling and disposal, environmental protection 1992-ben szerzett üzemmérnöki oklevelet a Pollack Mihály Műszaki Főiskola Bajai Vízgazdálkodási Intézetében. 1992 folyamán öt hónapot töltött Németországban, a braunschweigi egyetemen, ahol hulladékelhelyezési és -kezelési kérdéseket tanulmányozott. Jelen cikke diplomamunkájának rövid összefoglalása.
