Abstracl: In order explorc the possibilities of moeting the water demands at Hatvan Town and her surroundings a working group of the Hydrogeological Section, Hungárián Hydrologieal Society has surveyed the potential artesian reservoirs in the region. The have arrived at the conclusion that the sand aquifers of the Quaternary and Pliocene formations in the area ean be developed for improving watersupply in the region. The areas to the North and South of Hatvan Town, on the right-hand side of River Zagyva were identified for potential development. Abstraction appears most suecessful in the area between Hatvan and Boldog, where the thiekness of the Pleistocene layer increases to 120—140 m and ineludes several gravel horizons for high yield capaeity. Tho waterbalanee studies and estimations have revealed the safe yield to be 8600 m 3/d which would loave the well gields developed already unaffected. The yield from the Upperl'annonian aquifers would bew 3600 m 3/d, while from the Pleistocene ones additional 5000 m 3/d. For obtaining this yield wells raning in depth from 60 to 180 m would have to be drilled. The waters are of good quality with iron and manganese contents surpassing the acceptable limits in a few instances.
