VIII. SUMMARY

almost the whole range of professional journals and publications. Besides, the proportion of foreign language books is remarkable, too. The number of collected professional journals is 25 (in Hungarian, German, English, French and Russian). Map gallery: The map gallery preserves maps of a very high value on the road network and on other themes from all ages. The stock of maps enables one to examine the development of the road network, crossing points and the structure of settlements. Document gallery: The main groups of the documents include planning documentation, files and manuscripts. The processed planning documentation amounts to some thousand items. The biggest part is made up of road plans, but bridge plans - among them the plans of large Danube-bridges - are also very spectacular. Processing of the stocks is in progress. Files are very diverse, they amount to some thousand items. One may find here files of both the national and the regional administration; these enable one to get an insight into the formation of several conceptual, long-term and far-reaching decisions, but one may examine a high number of solutions on all-day details through them, too. An important part of the files is made up of the several hundred research reports and studies. An interesting part of the document gallery contains small prints, that are of a very high diversity. The collection preserves several manuscripts, too, a majority thereof being unpublished records and memoirs. Photopraphs, films, video and audio material: The technical collection includes some ten thousand images, animated and sound materials. All phases of picture-recording technics are present here. Nowadays, more and more documents are already available in CD-format. Fine art products: The material of the collection is well completed by fine-art products showing the work of road- and bridge workers: paintings, graphics, and furthermore, small sculptures, plaquettes and medals that were used as a sign for professional acknowledgement or record a ceremonial event. Services of the Technical Collection The Technical Collection provides for wide-ranging and more and more valuable services. The basic service includes the permanent exhibition in Kiskőrös, besides that seasonal thematic and occassional presentations are also important. Exhibiting activities are completed by the preparation of publications, by own research and by serving professional research-workers. Permanent exhibition: The permanent exhibition, which can be visited yet today, was opened in 1995, on the twentieth anniversary of the existence of the Technical Collection. By extending the area, the open-air exhibition has been enriched greatly since then. More than one hundred thousand people visited the permanent exhibition in the last thirty years, there are a lot of returning guests, meaning that the Technical Collection fulfils its informative-educational task with success. In order to answer the interest of school-age visitors the preparation of information and programmes meeting museum-paedagogic requirements has been started. A permanent field exhibition can be visited in the National Historic Memorial Park of Ópusztaszer, where, as part of the Millennium ceremonies, the roadman's memorial house, that was built under the professional direction of the Technical Collection, was inaugurated in 2000. In 2005, the „Feketeházy-Lévárdy Memorial Room" was opened in Vágsellye (Slovakia), which is also part of the permanent exhibition. We have material on display at our headquarters in Budapest and at several regional road management companies, too. Seasonal exhibitions: The extension of the premises in Kiskőrös in 2002 enabled us to open a room for seasonal exhibition. Occassional exhibitions: The occassional exhibitions of the Technical Collection are linked to anniversaries, events or personalities. Professional and cultural occassions: We regularly organize and provide space for professional and town events. Joining in the cultural life of the town we organize fine art exhibitions and jazz concerts. Publications; The Technical Collection contributes to the preparation, edition and managing of publications, that deal with the past of the profession, on a regular basis.
