MUSICA MUNDI basic idea is possible through the offering of several categories with different degrees of difficulty, with and without compulsory pieces. The variety of programs ranges from madrigal to classical and modern, and even avant-garde choir pieces to jazz. The Interculture Foundation attaches much importance to the fact that the top as well as the mass of choral and instrumental music ensembles are represented at all of its competitions. Besides main prizes, special prizes, and category awards for the best choirs of the competition, the jury members also give gold, silver or bronze diplomas which show the ensembles their current level of achievement. Our events are not only ordinary competitions. They develop more and more into enthusiastic festivals where meeting and friendship, concerts, further training, conducting courses, exchange of experience, congresses and written music exchanges play an important role. It is also the aim of the Interculture Foundation to promote developing choirs and young conductors, by awarding their outstanding work with scholarships and invitations to other events. Through regular participation in the events many choirs improve and reach an international artistic level, mainly sponsored by the INTERKULTUR Foundation. The „International Choir Competitions MUSICA MUNDI Association“ has recently been constituted, and the Interculture Foundation has been given the right to lead it. Apart from our events, many other international festivals and choir competitions for amateur groups are members of this new association. The Interculture Foundation is working on many new events for the 1999 and 2000 seasons and has already planned programs up to the year 2004. We received a great amount of requests from towns in Europe, USA, Africa and Asia, willing to collaborate with us in the organization of a MUSICA MUNDI event. A special committee is now working on the developping of a great idea, the first Olympic Games for amateur choirs ever organized in the world, the „Chorolympiade 2000“, which will take place in July 2000 in Linz (Austria). We count on the participation of more than 25,000 young people representing more than 120 countries of the world. 23
