Dear Visitor, It was seven years ago when we published this booklet for the first time. I recommend the brochure including the programmes of Gyöngyös and the settlements of the Mátra and the „Mátraalja” (foot of the Mátra) to your attention. Our outstanding programmes can be found in the first part of the booklet. We hope our foreign guests will find these programmes interesting. Our museums and exhibitions show our town’s cultural traditions and values. One of the most valuables is the Monumental Library of the Franciscans, which represents the European education of the printing’s age with its’ inculabulas. Beside exhibitions on the local history and game management one of Hungary’s biggest natural historical exhibition can be seen in the Mátra Museum. I would like to recommend to you the 17th Mátra Old-timers’ Show, the 5th „GYÖNGY” International Folk Dance Festival and the vintage programmes of the surroundings (Gyöngyöspata, Gyöngyös, Gyöngyössolymos, Kisná- na) from the end of August until the middle of September. These programmes will show the still living traditions of our wine-, and folk traditions. We invite you to this friendly area where you can find the beauty of the nature, the folk traditions and different kind of activities for spending leisure time from hunting to hiking.
