Why is this wine so famous? Because bottled it unites the sun energy of the hills, the traditionally developed favourable qualities of grape kinds, the love of producing grapes, the processing, maturation of the wine, something that passes from father to son, the effect produced by the vulcanic soil, and the manual labour of industrious human beings. The Bull’s Blood of Eger sparkling in a glass, though velvety, is a harsh- flavoured wine with a deep red colour, in a way mild. When stored in bottles characteristic bouquets and aromas emerge. With help of the town administration EGERVIN established a wine museum in the Városfal Street. The relics of wine production are displayed in the wine-house, furnished with good taste. Under the wine-house in the cellars a wine museum has been arranged with the richest collection of this kind in the region. The inner cellar branches with furniture produced for a demanding hospitality, offer a worthy surrounding to the tasting of these exquisite wines. In the plans for the near future a cellar system with colonnades is to be established under the Cathedral on an area of 3000 m2. This Town Wine-Cellar will be one of the main attractions for tourists and it will be very exciting for those interested in the world of grapes and wine. The visitors will see the most important moments of vine-growing and wine production, as if they were in a wax-works show. In the smaller cellar branches one may see and of course buy red wines from the most important red wine regions of the world. In one part of the maze moments of the cutting of a cellar will be shown. On a small stage the relation between grapes and culture will be represented. The atmosphere, the sights in this cellar under the inner town will be a unique rarity in Hungary. It is no use visiting Eger without the Valley of Beautiful Woman, a part of the town with a lovely location, with its atmosphere of bygone times, its cool cellars, the sparkling wines. All these are very attractive to those, who like romantic surroundings. We should know following about the cellars: in the 17th century, the inhabitants wanting to escape from the Turks, cut the first cellars and at that time these were used as dwelling places. After the people came back to the town these cellars were converted into places to store wine. At present there are 320 cellars, hewn in the tuffstone, each with a different character and these offer a unique experience when making the acquaintance of our wines. 17
