5. The 9. Kossuth Street is the County Hall. It has splendid wrought iron gates by Henrik Fazola just inside from 1761. The building in the courtyard was a prison. Today there is a museum inside about Eger and the County of Heves in the 18.-19. centuries. (see: Museums, Exhibitions). /. Fifty meters from the northern (or back) entrance of the castle, you’ll find the house and Memorial Museum of Géza Gádonyi, the writer of the famous historical novel, Eclipse of the Crescent Moon. Let’s walk back to the south or Main Entrance! 6. Kossuth Street leads you to Dózsa Square, to the entrance of the castle. In the castle the underground casemates; the Bishop’s Palace with the museum of the history of the castle; the Hall of Heroes with the tombstone of István Dobó (died in 1572), the heroic captain who regelled the Turks in the siege of 1552; the Art Gallery; the Cathedral ruins; the Coint and Mint Exhibition; the Prison Museum and the Ispotály Winecellar offer you an unforgettable time to spend. When you buy your entrance ticket you can ask for an English-language guide, who’ll show you around in the castle. Ö. Walking down on Dobó Street you’ll get to Dobó Square, the main square of the city. There are two groups of statues on the square reminding everyone of the heroic siege of 2000 Hungarians against the Turks’ superior numbers in 1552.
