Why Eger? ‘You must see Eger”- reconed the poet two centuries ago. What could we say nowadays if mention is made of this town? I belive - not just as a localpatri- ot - this town loved by all, because of its historical atmosphere and location blessed with natural beauty. Whoever calls on this town, be our compatriot or visitors from abroad will recollect lovely memories of staying here. The natives of Eger have thousand of reasons gathered in the course of thousand of years to prove the above. Welcome to all who are interested in this town, just visiting or planning to come here. I believe our illustrated information leaflets will convince you, it worth to come to Eger for not just a few hours but spend a longer time here collecting treasured memories. Eger is a truly complete town. If you are after the town's culture, history and relics, you will find a wide range of sources of these in Eger, as well as the visitor who passionate about baths and looking for softening, recovery and relaxation. From this year - already as an EU member - we started another new project: make our town and its environment even more attractive destination for visitors. As known in 2010 a Hungarian and a German town can be awarded to the “European City of Culture” title. We applied for this title along with 10 other Hungarian towns, and I am convinced that Eger stands the chance. To achieve this, we need the collaboration of the people who live here after all many valuable projects and developments has to be attained. We have foundations to build upon. The organisers of tourism, the professionals of hospitality - some well known internationally - work hard to provide attractive programs and choices to the visitor. We would like to demonstrate that our elegant restaurants, hotels and cosy family guest houses not only make our guests pleased regarding the quality of the service but go further and convince them that Eger is a welcoming town and the locals are friendly and very hospital. We wish you, to our Guest (and of course to ourselves as well) that one day returned from Eger start your travelogue: “..I have been in the European City of Culture”
