\t the beginning of the 20th century, family wineries ippeared, which preserved the fame of the wine region vith their good wines before nationalization came about, following the setting up of state co-operatives, the Eger- Vfátravidéki Wine Company, producing on a large scale, aecame the single big wine making company of the region, ind the biggest Hungarian wine distributor, as well.

ľhe Eger Vine-growing Community was re-established an September 1, 1995. The Vine-growing Community aromotes and safeguards the interests of vine-growers ind wine makers, enhances the marketability of their aroducts, and enforces modern quality and protected origin safeguarding measures. By the time of the political ahanges, several famous family wineries had been estab- ished. Two Eger wine makers were acknowledged for :heir outstanding professional work by the Hungarian Wine Academy. The “Wine Maker of the Year” title was aresented to Vilmos Thummerer in 1995, and to the late ľibor Gál in 1998.
