One of the oldest factories in Hungary the Parad Glass Factory has a history dating back to 1708, when it was founded by Prince Rákóczi who led the Hungarian War of Independence against the Hapsburgs. In the 18th Century, the factory produced window glasses and various, highly artistic household holloware items. Apart from traditional single-coloured decoration, several other methods were employed to make the products more attractive. A new grinding shop put into operation in 1803. it was an important step forward in the life of the factory,from both technical and artistic viewpoints. And as part of the search for new decorating methods, in the so-called 'lace' technique was introduced, where vases, ashtrays etc. were painted blue, with fine white lace patterns added on the top. In 1961 commerical production of lead glass stemware and decorative glassware exportation was started to Western countries. The production value created by the refurbished factory increased by five times between 1954 and 1964 and exports amounted to 40% of total production This trend has been continued and today about 75% of the company's total sales is exported to markets worldwide.
