Our association has 8 functioning institutions, among them the Young Writers’ National Circle (FIOK), the People’s Academy for Writers, the Editorship of Nerv Face, the Varga Publishing House, and the National Circle of Hungarian Writers (MIOK). A characteristic feature of this latter organization is that it welcomes not only published weiters, but quite unusually, has a separate section for writers just beginning their career. Besides assisting and helping mature writers, we endeavoug to find and educate emerging talents, as well as to provide them with opportunities for the publication of their works. One of our basic aims is to contribute to the renaissance of Hungarian literary life, to strengthen democracy in literary public life, to revive interest in matters of public interest, to promote our mother tongue and native culture in the spirit of European thinking. Our center is in Eger, this Baroque city that achieved world fame owing to its rich Medieval culture and its heroic struggles against the Turks to protect European Christendom between 1552 and 1687. In the years of joining the European Union, once again we have to find a common language. Let’s then write for each other’s papers, publications and anthologies, let’s organize exchange visits not only at state level, but in the civil sector as well. Our aim should be to get acquainted with each other and to shape European public thinking. I think this will be beneficial to every participant, as well as for our common European civilization.
