(Cigarettes and drinks can only be imported by persons over 16.) In any one year on the first entry you can bring in goods to the value of 10,000 Ft. A customs charge must be paid on goods valued at over 10,000 Ft. Pets (dogs, cats etc.) must be accompanied with a valid health certificate. (A veterinary check is done at the border.) Sporting guns and ammunition may be brought in only with an accompanying certificate issued by the Hungarian consulate in the country of residence. Gifts For the customs clearance of gifts not exceeding 25,000 Ft in value intended for a Hungarian national the foreigner must pay duty in Hungarian forints exchanged from convertible currency. To accept gifts exceeding 25,000 Ft in Hungarian value the recipient has to obtain a permit from the National Bank of Hungary.
