traveled a lot in the Turkish empire, also spent a lot of time in the occupied Eger. He liked its “radiumactive” thermal springs. He called Eger the red apple. One can imagine the good time they had with the pasha in the bath called Valide Sultana with its cupola covered with ceramic tiles, getting massaged by young staff, then admiring fleshy Turkish women beside the pool. Besides its medicinal use of the Eger thermal waters, the water of the spring groups served and has still been serving recreation, entertainment and sports, as well. The Eger Turkish bath The bath was built between 1610 and 1617 by the Turks occupying Eger. The central part of the building comes from the 17 century, and it was Arnaut pasha’s “ilidja”, hot water bath. Although the building was redone several times, the Turkish character was preserved: the octagonal central pool with a golden cupola over it, the keel arched, grayish green ceramic wall tiles, the light breaking through the round glass pieces on the side create a genuine Turkish “ilidja” character in the building. The water in the Turkish bath is of neutral temperature, 31-32 °C, so visitors suffering from high blood pressure or cardiac diseases can also use it.
