Cultural tourism 17 Historical merry-making For two weeks from the middle of July, traditionalists await visitors with spectacular programs downtown Eger and in the castle: they evoke the Middle Age Market Square with period scenes, showing the many different characters of distant centuries. In the setting, completely occupying the main square of the town, the visitors, traveling back in time, are not only spectators, but also participants of the events. During the day music, dances, culinary delights, games, in the evening theatrical performances, and then merry-making far into the night await visitors. During the time of the Merry-making in the Border Castle, several programs are organized in the castle, too. During the festival, craftsmen plying traditional trades offer their products and show the “master strokes” of the trade to the visitors.
