Eger, the Eger Bikavér A red wine of protected origin, it has a vivid ruby color, carries fruitiness and maturity in its bouquet, shows manliness in its acids, and has a velvety harmony. According to the standards of Eger Bikavér, one needs to blend wines made of at least three different blue grapes. The Eger Bikavér, blended of the wines of several blue grapes, is most probably the best- known wine of Hungary. There is no precise information about the origin of the name. The name is readily connected to the Eger locals having fought heroically against the Turks, but the name of this strong red wine has only been used in written documents since 1851. Jenő Gröber is said to have made a more noble version of Eger Bikavér. Making wines separately from different blue grapes, he blended the purebred wines to get a full-bodied, spicy and fiery wine. wines 1 1 i J 1 p*® 'T'lM I L |r M ''<1 *. 1 ."Ctrl ill I ....
