3. The Local Studies Group of the Association of Hungarian Librarians (HKSZ) 3.1. The formation of the Local Studies Group of the Association of Hungarian Librarians (HKSZ) 1994 was a very important year in the history of the HKSZ. The Centre for Library Science and Methodology, the Pest County Library and the Katona Lajos Town Library organised a national Conference for local studies librarians. 85 During this Conference the Hungarian Local Studies Group was established, in response to a wish of librarians responsible for local studies collections to confer with their colleagues about common issues and concerns. A minute of this meeting 86 asserts that sixty-one librarians stated in writing their intention of forming a new professional branch, the Local Studies Group of the Association of Hungarian Librarians (HKSZ). Fifty-eight of these librarians elected a temporary committee for one year. Gyula Mándli was voted Chairman of the new Group. The committee members were: Erzsébet Gáncs (secretary), László Kiss (treasurer), Márta Orbán and Géza Horváth. Béla Takáts, Judit Székely and Sándor Sarkady made up the HKSZ Audit Team. The Deed of Foundation was dated 28 September 1994 and was signed by Tibor Horváth, Chairman of the MKE, and István Papp, secretary-general of the MKE. 87 The aims of the HKSZ: • to encourage members of the Local Studies Group to work towards the highest standards of professional practice • to provide important forums for communication, debate, and training in all areas of local studies librarianship • to assist local studies librarians in developing local studies librarianship • to co-operate with colleagues in associated public collections, museums and archives and in special organisations and associations • to foster international links with librarians working in the field of local studies inside and outside of the country Helytörténész könyvtárosok országos tanácskozása.
