3. The Local Studies Group of the Association of Hungarian Librarians (HKSZ). - 3.4. National discussion group meetings. - 3.4.1. National discussion groups organised by the HKSZ.

On the second day, the participants heard about the development of local studies from the host librarians, György Gerber and Gyula Mándli. Gizella Zsok demonstrated a special database on the Vág-Duna-Ipoly Euro region. On the third day Béla Takáts and Károly Kokas both set out options for dealing with electronic material and digitised images. The Conference delegates, including Elizabeth Melrose, the former chairman of the LA Local Studies Group, took the opportunity of a river-cruise to visit Dunakanyar, Visegrád and Nagymaros. On the Mária-Valéria Bridge, which connects Hungary with Slovakia, Gyula Mándli and Gizella Zsok signed and exchanged scrolls of co-operation and collaboration on behalf of local studies librarians of both countries. It was announced that the 10th Conference of the Local Studies Group would be held in Budapest in 2003. At these Conferences there is always time for informal meetings and sightseeing tours. At mealtimes, at the informal receptions and during the excursions, librarians share their practice, find solutions for their professional problems and make friends for the future. Knowing that they are not alone empowers nearly a hundred librarians who look forward to the next meeting. The ten years of the HKSZ has been based on this atmosphere of mutual understanding and friendship - as György Gerber notes in his article 97 and as the extensive illustrations archive belonging to the HKSZ confirms. 3.4. National discussion group meetings There are two main types of national discussion group meetings. Firstly, there are the meetings organised by the HKSZ on its own; secondly, there are the joint meetings organised by the National Educational Library and Museum and the Honismereti Szövetség (a special association for disseminating knowledge of the country). 3.4.1. National discussion groups organised by the HKSZ The HKSZ usually organises its national meetings in Budapest in the National Library or in the Budapest Collection of the Szabó Ervin Metropolitan Library. These venues ensure the professional and technical backup needed for these meetings. Váctól Vácig : az MKE Helyismereti Könyvtárosok Szervezetének jubileumi konferenciája / Gerber György.
