3. The Local Studies Group of the Association of Hungarian Librarians (HKSZ). - 3.3. National Conferences organised by the HKSZ.

The main Conference excursion was a visit to the new library in Kaposvár. On the second day Ferenc Kégli gave a paper on the history of the public library system in Fejér County. Szabolcsné Gomba commemorated one of Hungary's famous bibliographers, István Csüry. Five members of the HKSZ, Györgyné Bódi, Márta Orbán, József Komlósi, Géza Horváth and Anna Takács examined the careers of their predecessors. The delegates stood for a one-minute silence, honouring the life of László Lisz­tes, a bibliographer whose work was described by György Gyuris. István Varga and Csaba Sipos outlined local studies achievements in Somogy County. The Conference was informed about two surveys. One, compiled by Valéria Czink, was about the software used in local studies collections. The other, compiled by Erzsébet Gáncs, resulted in feedback on the HKSZ Conferences. This latter survey is included in the chapter on national surveys. (3.7.) 9 th Conference of the Local Studies Group 96 Vác, 17-19 July 2002 Gyula Mándli, Chairman of the Local Studies Group, planned the 9 th Conference in the Katona Lajos Town Library, Vác as the last celebration of his term of office. The Conference themes were influenced by the new century and ranged over the place and role of local studies collections in the 21st century and the emergence of new types of source material. The first speaker, Miklós Bényei, theorised on the challenges of the new century. Barnabásné Berke put many problems into an international context by commenting on the value of collecting electronic documents and demonstrating international practice. Péter Biczák spoke about the links with Slovakian public libraries. Three members of the HKSZ, László Laki-Lukács, Erzsébet Gáncs and Béla Fodor, talked about the lives of notable early librarians. After a sightseeing tour, Zoltán Ambrus, President of the Association of Hungarian Librarians, opened a photographic exhibition in Vác Town Library illustrating the work of the HKSZ. This was the work of Gyula Mándli, who had over the years taken and collected the pictorial archive record of the Group. 96 Helyismereti könyvtárosok IX.
