7 Conference of the Local Studies Group: Székesfehérvár 94 , 26-28 July 2000 For the Year of the Millennium the Conference was held in Székesfehérvár, the town where kings of Hungary were crowned. József Komlósi from the Vörösmarty Mihály County Library, Székesfehérvár coordinated the Conference arrangements, and following the opening ceremony, Mick Scott, the representative of the LA Local Studies Group, read out a letter from Graham P. Cornish, President of the UK Library Association. The main theme of the Conference was the establishment of local studies collections in public libraries in Hungary and in Great Britain. Miklós Bényei and Mick Scott spoke on this subject from their different perspectives. These speakers were followed by Miklós Takács and Sándor Katsányi, each of whom introduced the life and career of a former librarian. This particular subject was continued on the second day. The idea of asking members of the HKSZ to deliver conference papers on the work of their predecessors had come from Márta Orbán, and it has become part of all the succeeding conference planning. During the Conference there were other papers, on local studies reference books published at the end of 19th century (László Élesztős), on the origins of local bibliographies (Gáborné Korompai) and on local studies work in Fejér County (József Komlósi). The evening party for the delegates was outstanding - Mick Scott gave an impromptu exhibition of English country dancing and he and Sándor Sarkady took part in a singing competition. Excursions took place to Gorsium and Lake Velencei. 8 th Conference of the Local Studies Group 95 Kaposvár, 18-20 July 2001 The main themes of the Conference organised by Róbert Varga in the County and Town Library of Kaposvár, was public libraries in Hungary after 1950 and the prominent librarians of the past. Gyula Gerő gave an overview of the work of those librarians who had laid the foundations of the library network in Hungary between 1949 and 1952. Ferenc Szita elaborated on the same subject from the point of view of Somogy, the host County. Helyismereti könyvtárosok VII. országos tanácskozása : Székesfehérvár, 2000. július 26-28. / [szerk.
