Lecturers from Hungary were alsó present: Dr Gyula Juhász the director of the National Széchenyi Library dealt with the cir- cumstances surrounding and the lessons to be drawn from the second Vienna resol- ution conceming the re-annexation of a part of Transylvania to Hungary. Dr Mihály Fülöp then gave an account of the minority code which was submitted at the Paris peace conference in 1946, without result, by the Hungárián govemment, its aim was to secure the survival of Hungarians who had come under foreign jurisdiction. The lectures were followed by a one an a half hour round table discussion at which a number of representatives of Hungárián organisations in Germany talked about the recent situation in Románia. The Stuttgart Federation was formed in 1987 and it has already acheived much. At last year's conference in October they drafted and adopted a memorandum in which they demanded an indspendent U.N. enquiry and effective intervention by leading powers intő the grave imfringement of humán and minority rights in Transylvania. This led among other things to a condemnation of the harassment of national minotities in Románia both in the European Parliament on February 21st and by the U.N. Humnan Rights Gommittee on March 9th. Récéntly the Federation has organised several demonstrations (fór example in Bonn and strasbourg) and has helped to initiate the S.O.S. Transylvania based in Geneva which has resülted in nearly 150 000 letters being sent to the U.N. protesting against Ceauguscu's policy. The Germán branch of the Federation has asked all those who can give evidence based on personal experience about infringements of humán rights in Románia. This will then be translated and verified and then given to the U.N. commission in Geneva who are to publish a report on the Románián situation in February 1990. Those wishing to testify can send their evidence to the Transylvanian Federation in Hungary, to S.O.S. Transylvania in Geneva or to the Swiss or Germán branches of the Transylvanian World Federation. I Subscribers can use or quote the Hungárián October newsletters in totál or in detail as long as the source is acknowledged.
