Editor: György Krassó * 24/D Little Russell Street * London, WC1A 2HN * Tel. 01-430 2126 (from abroad 441-430 2126) 302/1988 (E) 26th November, 1988 Resolutions Made at the Small Holders Party Conference Today the Small Holders Party national conference took piacé in the Pilvax Cafe’s function room between 11-5 pm in which the members of the temporary leadership, representatives of provinciái organisations and old Party members took part. The meeting had three points on its agenda: to debate and adopt the party manifesto policies, to examine the operation of its right to continue and organisational and constitutional questions. New Small Holder Party branches have been formed in Szentendre, Győr, Szeged, Szigetvár, Veszprém, Pe'cs, Szekszárd,Miskolc and Gyöngyös and its temporary leadership was elected on November 18th. The president of this leadership is Tivadar Pártay, the generál secretary is Dezső Futó, the vice-presidents are László Kovács, János Janzsó, Pál Szőke, József Jónás and Dr -Béla Mizsei. The post of deputy generál secretary has been filled by Dr Géza Iván and Pál Dragon is res- ponsible fór national organisation, the organisation of Greater Budapest vili be headed by István Jezsó. Dr Karoly Ravasz and Vilmos Bereczki are responsible fór press and intemational contacts and are the spokespeople fór the party. The members of the national executive committee were drawn from the old guard of the party and from the leaders of the newly established local branches. The resolution of the conference stated that the recommended manifesto policies would be adopted during the debate and that a vote would be taken on any modifications. The leadership ordered the text to be sent to all members. Imre Pozsgay, the Minister of State, récéntly declared that the continued operation of the Small Holders Party must be clarified. In response to this the conference declared that "the party has nőt been disbanded since 1945, it was nőt prohibited and has nőt announced its dissolution. Its operation was interrupted as a result of national Stalinist despot- ism. In the Hungárián democratisation process the party’s reorganisation and function is its legal right." In today’s national conference the party’s manifesto consisting o£ 46 clauses was adopted and the following announcement was issued: "On November 26th the national conference of the reorganised Small Holders, Farmers and Civil Party in the Pilvax Cafe debated and adopted the party manifesto. The national conference is pleased to announce the ex-M.P. Dezső Futó was elected as generál secretary and has accepted his post. The aim of the party*s policies is that Hungary should become a country which upholds the law, humanism, calm, order and peace and respects work, knovledge, security of existence, freedom and indepen- dence. It wants the Hungárián nation to regain its self-respect, national identity, and activity so that it ceases to be afraid, compelled and compromised. It wishes to create a social structure, a democratic republic which is based on humán freedom, equal opportunity and social security. The independent Small Holders Party wants to enable good-willed, selfless, patriotic and freedom loving citizens to take part in this political work by using the modem principles of the old manifestos which will savé the Hungárián nation from the economic, communal and morál crisis which it now faces."
