Their objective is generally the open representation and uijity of group and strata interests. Although a unión was formed called the Scientific Workers Democratic Union many have asked: Where are the workers? That is why the formation of the "Young Democrats Stúdió" in April was of particular interest. This group was organised by eight young workers and in their April l6th founding declaration their objective was to decrease the isolation of different young stratas and their lack of information through open debates, by taping what was voiced in important independent movements’ conferences and by distributing cassettes. Since then the Young Democrats Stúdió has held meetings and has several times voiced their views in Young Democrats Alliance meetings and in the debate evenings of other groups. On May 13th young workers and industrial apprentices formed the Young Workers YDA base group, that day it debated and adopted proposals fór the YDA’s draft programme. Since then the group has changed its name to the "YDA Workers Group", its members met last Friday - July 22nd - in the aftemoon in the garden of a Budapest restaurant. They issued an announcement stating that a solution to the grave national crisis is only possible if workers can be involved in forging their own fate. The YDA Workers Group submitted the following demands: the restoration of the worker and the honour of work; non-violent democratic transformation; independent free unions and the legal right to strike; workers organisations which are spontaneously estab- lished and self-goveming ; the right to a living either from eight hours work or from an appropiate unemployment benefit; reál wage reform and the ceasing of Central wage regulation; the creation of an independent social security system; the estab- lishment of independent agencies to control the budget; council flats fór all those whose income is below existence minimums; the strengthening of the self-goveming and representative role of the councils; and - this last demand is quoted in its entirety - "Provision fór work-places: workers in all work-places which are nőt considered of vitai importance by Parliament from a state security viewpoint must récéivé and prac- tice rights of property and disposal, fór example through possessing shares issued by their work-place". Finally they call upon all the workers in the country to help the YDA’s Workers Group by submitting proposals, acting in solidarity and joining. The announcement dated July 22nd was signed on behalf of the organisers by two people.
