MCLAUGHLIN: Do you like him personally? His

personality?

KADAR: He is [European expression] decent as a person.

MCLAUGHLIN: Final question. I have the impression from

talking to his officials that Gorbachev will use Lenin's New Economic Plán as the doctrinal instrument behind his reform.

Do you feel that's the case?

KADAR: When we started out, when we began our own struggle more than 30 years ago, we said that we would return to Leninist sources, and follow the direction set at the 20th congress [of the CPSU]. This was more than 30 years ago, and

his hundred times more so in the Soviet Union. They are

reaching back to the Leninist sources and follow the path set

at the 20th Congress, and then unfortunately that process was

halted.

MCLAUGHLIN: Thank you very much fór being my guest on

KADAR: You're welcome, most welcome, and I hope that

this interview will serve the better understanding of our peoples, theire getting to know each other better, and understand each other better, because this is important, this is necessary, fór the peoples of our countries as well as fór humanity. Thank you.
