Krassi 52/1987 /E/ 28th April, 1987 Letter of Charter *77 to the editorial board of the Hungárián samizdat .joumal "Beszélő" /Poc, No. 25/87/* Dear friends, Thank you fór your letter which you sent us on lst January o-f this year on the occasion of the 10 anniversary of Charter 77. We learned its contents írom a copy which did nőt reach us until the middle o-f March, while the original -failed to be delivered by post. You will there-fore excuse us -fór replying with such a delay. In the meantime there have been terrorist actions perpetrated against Hungárián cultural institutions in Bratislava. It is a shocking event and Charter 77 appealed to the Czechoslovak government and Czechoslovak Federal Assembly to pay greater attention to similar mani-festations o-f intolerance and to the detection o-f the offenders. The wish expressed at the cl őse of your letter, to deepen the sense of unity between democratically minded Hungarians, Czechs and Slovaks in the coming decade, has grown in significance given the present circumstances. Charter 77 condemns cultural diseri mination against the Hungárián ethnic minority and demands that the constitutional authorities impress on the média and schools, particularly on those in Slovakia, the need to assist in the creation of an atmosphere of national tolerance and mutual understanding. With best regards, Jan Litomisky Libuse Silhanova Charter 77 spokesperson Charter 77 spokesperson Josef Vohryz^k Charter 77 spokesperson 30 Mareh 19B7 * The English text of this letter was given to us by Palach Press Ltd. /London/.
