2 novices. Officially, the activity of this limited number of priests who are members of religious orders is to be limited to the care of their schools. In practice, however, these priests help out the dioceses time and again in the area of pastoral care and thus provide valuable help in this area of the Church's activity. Their activity as scholars and writers is an indispensible factor in the life of Hungary's Church. Exact figures on the number of religious order priests who are officially allowed to function as such in Hungary have not been made available up to now. On the basis of the 1950 agreement, however, their number should stand at about 200.
