-Press-Service Special Topic: Religion and Church in Hungary No, 14-Vienna, April 1979 THE FACTS New Episcopal Appointments in Hungary On 5 April 1979 Pope John Paul II, with the consent of the Hungarian government, made the following episcopal appointments for Hungary: Dr.László PASKAI, Titular Bishop and Apostolic Administrator ad nutum sanctae sedis of the Diocese of Veszprém, was appointed Diocesan Bishop of Veszprém. The following persons were appointed as titular bishops: Dr.Gyula SZAKOS, who comes from the Diocese of Szombathely and is the parish pastor of Sárvár, was appointed Titular Bishop of Rapido and Auxiliary Bishop of the Diocese of Székesfehérvár. Dr.István BAGI who comes from the Archdiocese of Esztergom and is Rector of the Hungarian Papal Institute in Rome, was appointed Titular Bishop of Bavagaliana and Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Esztergom. Isidor István MAROSI who comes from the Diocese of Vác and is the abbey pastor of the main church in Kecskemét, was appointed Titular Bihsop of Massula and Auxiliary Bishop of the Diocese of Vac. The episcopal consecrations will take place on 30 April of this year in the Esztergom basilica. BACKGROUND Curriculum Vitae of the Newly-Named Bishops Dr.László PASKAI was born on 8 May 1927 in Szeged. His high school years were spent at the Piarist's High School for Boys in Szeged. He began his theological studies at the Franciscans in Gyöngyös and, after the dissolution of the Order, ended them at the Theological Academy in Budapest. On 8 March 1951, he was ordained a priest for the Diocese of Nagyvárad. He finished his doctoral studies at the Theological Academy in Budapest in 1952 and in the same year became the bishop's Master of Ceremonies in the chancery of the Bishop of Csanád. In 1955, he became Professor of Philosophy at the Theological College in Szeged and also its librarian, Prefect of the seminary, and also part-time assistant in a parish.
