HIS Press Service No.14, April 1979 Page 4 v as the diocese's titular bishop. During this short time, Bishop Rosta won the love and recognition of the faithful, and in fact of the entire diocese, through his unaffected, friendly manner and the zeal with which he performed his priestly duties to the best of his ability; his death was thus an occasion of deep sadness. Dr.Gyula Szakos, whose personality is somewhat similar to that of Ferenc Rosta, is esteemed and respected in his home diocese of Szombathely - a fact which the many offices he holds gives evidence to. Dr.Gyula Szakos and Imre Kisberk, the Diocesan Bishop of Székesfehérvár, have already been working together for years within the framework of the national liturgical council; this will certainly facilitate their common efforts for the good of the diocese and prove both fruitful and beneficial. Isidor István Marosi has spent almost all of his priestly life up to this time in pastoral activity in the Hungarian Lowlands. The appointment represents for him an expanded area of pastoral activity, a field with which he is already so well acquainted ; this gives one every reason to hope that his rich experience in this area will not only prove beneficial for the entire diocese but also enable him to actively support the diocese's bishop. Dr. István Bagi is the third rector of the Hungarian Papal Institute to become a bishop. György Zemplén, one of his predecessors as Rector of the Hungarian Papal Institute in Rome, was also in his time Auxiliary Bishop of Esztergom and Rector of the Central Seminary. If Dr.Bagi too should be entrusted with this latter responsibility, the experience gathered by him during his six years as head of the Hungarian Papal Institutewil 1 certainly prove valuable, since the Central Seminary is faced at present with a number of internal problems. The succession to the archepiscopal seat of Kalocsa remains unresolved. Archbishop József Ijjas, who is almost 78 years old, already tendered his resignation in November 1976. What adds to the significance of this small archdiocese is that its head automatically becomes president of the Hungarian Bishops Conference if the archepiscopal seat of Esztergom should suddenly become vacant. It had been generally assumed in Hungary that the new episcopal appointments would also contain the designation of a new head of the Kalocsa Archdiocese. No such action occurred, however, and Dr.József Ijjas thus continues as head of the Archdiocese of Kalocsa.
