mentioned ornamental method originating from Miskolc, that gain ground in Heves County. This process of gaining ground started out from the capital of Matyó land - Mezőkövesd. The village of Szuhahuta (today Mátraalmás), today found in Nógrád County, belonged to Heves County until 1949. The Slovakian settlers of this village were attracted by the glass-works established at the end of the 18. century. After the glass works was closed down (in the mid- 19th century) they gradually turned to the making of woodworking tools, wooden utensils and some of them started making wooden chests. They mainly supplied their goods to the Palóc villages north of the Mátra mountains. Some of them also got into contact with the tradesmen transporting furniture made in Gömör County thereby their products also reached the regions of the Hungarian Great Plains. In the 1940's there were 45 specialist woodworkers in Szuhahuta who distributed their goods in approximately 200 settlements within a 40-60 kilometers range. 113
