Hajdú-Bihar Megyei Levéltár Évkönyve XXXI. 53 History of the Kálmánchey family Mrs Szendi, Erzsébet Orvos The author deals with the history of the Kálmánchey family. It was based on the data of a five hundred paged book collected by Endre Kálmánchey, who was a secondary school teacher. The study covers nearly five centuries. The half a thousand year history of the Kálmánchey family gave a lot of famous men to the country. There were priests, soldiers, politicians and diplomats among them who patronized with pleasure the arts and sciences. In the middle of the 16th century the family had to go from their ancient land of Somogy county, because of the Turkish invaders, spreaded over the territory of the historical Hungary. Then they never returned back to their ancestor’s land but they settled in the West Transdanubia, the Transylvania, the Upper Northern Hungary and mainly in the east of the river Tisza. They still live there. Beside the family history, the paper publishes the whole text of the document both in Latin and Hungarian. The original document was offered to the Hajdú-Bihar county Archives by the Memory foundation of Kálmáncsehi Sánta Márton, which provided the family traditions, after the document had been repaired by the National Széchenyi Library.
