A few years later the amount, in fact, was donated to the local institute of trade education. The exchange of correspondence was so far only preserved hidden in the columns of the daily newspaper Debreczen. Károly Oláh, editor of Debreczen, who played an instrumental role in the maintenance of the cult of Kossuth, also turned to his ideal in early 1874, during a period of crisis dividing the political opposition. Lajos Kossuth replied to this letter on 18 January 1874, which was then published in the newspaper; however, this is the first time since that the lengthy letter appears in print, which is also scarcely known to historians.
