We can only suspect that Bocskay probably had identical notions about settling the Heyducks. The idea of the so-called “free peasant society” had probably been one of his concerns for some time before. In order to illustrate this, I will refer to one of the charters issued by Transylvanian voivod Kristóf Báthory in 1559 in which the latter ordered the villeins of nine villages of the young István Bocskay exempt írom services to be rendered to landowners.

Another significant feature of the privileges belonging to Kismarja is the fact that, although with some changes necessary for updating, they continued to survive throughout the period of feudalism (1848) while all the successive rulers confirmed them, and some of them even had their effect felt as long as the 1950s.
