Tanulmányok - Ölveti Gábor: A XVII. század végi kuruc felkelés és Debrecen
35 lései és zaklatásai, de különösképpen a város mérhetetlen kiszolgáltatottsága 1680 januárjában a „debreceni lármához” vezetett. Debrecen ennek ellenére 1670-től kezdődően közel másfél évtizeden keresztül hozzájárult a hadsereg ellátásához, s ezzel közvetetten a magyarországi felkelők sikereihez. Hajdú-Bihar Megyei Levéltár Évkönyve XXVI Gábor Ölveti The late 17th century Kuruc uprising and Debrecen Using the sources at his disposal, the author makes an attempt to reveal the internal and external conditions which, all taken together, led to the outbreak of the armed uprising against the Hapsburg rule. Beyond discussing the general interrelations involved in the topic, the author pays special attention to Debrecen’s role in the uprising. The Warsaw treaty of 1677 then the end in 1681 of the Turkish - Russian War assured support firstly from the French king, Louis XIV, later from Kara Mustafa, Turkish Grand Duke for the armed struggle of the Hungarian dissidents. The movement of the “refugees” successfully avoided not only external isolation, but also anonymity, due to the military and diplomatic efforts made by Count Imre Thököly. It was proved that the Transylvanian Prince, Michael Apafy was unable to maintain the commander’s role in the uprising army. The City of Debrecen, situated in the boundary area of the three great powers, became victim of the opposed interests of these powers. The defenceless city was severely inflicted by retributions from the German forces - because of supplies yielded to the uprising Hungarians, as well as by the unlimited demands on the side of the Turkish, Transylvanian and Kuruc soldiers. Although in early 1860 the population of Debrecen, in their great despair, did not allow Thököly’s troops to enter the city, this event does not diminish the positive judgement of the city for it had played a considerable role in the supply of the uprising Hungarian forces.
