REMEMBRANCE OF BÁLINT ÁRMÓS Endre Ármós

Bálint Ármós (1822-1898) lawyer who participated in the fight for freedom of 1848/49 as a "honvéd officer" (officer of the Hungarian army) was living in his former school-town, in Debrecen from the beginning of the I860 years. Here in addition to his activity as a lawyer he took an active part in service of the public affairs of the town as a member of the municipal board. From 1864 he hold several responsible positions in the management of secular matters of the Calvinist church and took a role in administration of economic matters of the Calvinist College. His life was characterised by puritan austerity besides open sincerity and humanity. These features appear also in the traditions of his rich testament and his foundations with which he presented the family members and moreover the Calvinist church and several schools of it, social and humanistic institutes and promoted the development of the town as well. 33
