History of Archives of borough town Debrecen between 1944 and 1950 by István Gazdag Debrecen was liberated on the 19th of October 1944. On the 13th of November 1944 the mayor of the town gave an order about the enrolment of the employeés of bureaus, institutions and companies who applied for work. Four persons, under the direction of chief archivist Endre Csobán started to put into order the material of the archives remained intact, but greatly mixed. Endre Csobán completed the first comptehensive analysis of the Archives of Debrecen by the first of December 1945. The limited storage conditions, the small number of staff made difficult to finish the necessary works. Results were achieved in the field of reestablishing the Archives in 1948. The Presidental Council had reorganized from the borough- town archive by his decree no. 29. of 1950 a State District Archive. The Executive Committee of the Town Council of Debrecen had handed over this Archives to the State Center of Archives on the 20th of December 1950. Appendices: 1.
