Tanulmányok - Béres András: A hortobágyi gazdálkodás felszabadulás utáni kibontakozása

The Development of Agriculture on the Hortobágy after the liberation András Béres The development of the Hortobágy from the Liberation until the foundation of the socialistic village covers a period of twenty-two years of struggle. From reports dated soon after World War II we can build up a rather strange and sad picture. Most of the cattle that belonged to Debrecen had been driven away, and it was a very difficult task to gather the herds, studs and flocks together again, which eventually took two years. The town was represented on the Hortobágy by the Mátai Biztosi Hivatal (apr. Commissioners Office of Máta) until July 1, 1952, when the Home Secretary attached the ’Hortobágy puszta’ to the village of Balmazújváros. The socialistic village, Hortobágy, was founded on January 1, 1966. The Hortobágy State Farm moulding five smaller estates into one became one of the largest states farms in Hungary, as a result of which it became possible to form the new village of almost three-thousand inhabitants and to develop an intensive farming on large scale besides the extensive husbandry. The statistic data indisputably demonstrate an impressive development in every field. The utilization of the new Hortobágy under the different circumstances re-shaped the ’puszta’ into a flourishing estate, where tradition is still kept. The development of the central settlement brought about the change of school education, as well as the improvement of social amenities and health care. 8 Évkönyv VII. 113
