Vörös A. szerk.: Fragmenta Mineralogica Et Palaentologica 15. 1992. (Budapest, 1992)

Early Sinemurian. According to A. Vörös (pers. comm.), new species frequently developed in the Tethyan region and appeared later in Northwest Europe. Distribution: According to Aimeras (1964), different subspecies of L. punctata occur from the Sinemurian to the Aalenian. Vörös (1982) mentioned L. punctata s.l. from the Jamesoni, Stokesi and Margaritatus Zones of Pliensbachian in the Bakony Mountains. The species was reported from Great Britain, Germany, the Eastern Alps (Hierlatz), the Southern Alps (Bergamo, Lugano, Saltrio), Sicily (Taormina), the Western Carpathians and the Bakony Mountains. Family PYGOPIDAE MUIR-WOOD, 1965 Genus Linguithyris BUCKMAN, 1918 Linguithyris linguata (BÖCKH, 1874) (Pl. IV, Fig. 4; Text-fig. 24) 1874 Terebratula (Waldheimia ?) linguata n.sp. - Böckh: p. 131, pl. 1, figs. 15., 17. 1884 Waldheimia (Aulacothyris) linguata BÖCKH Material: 1 incomplete specimen. Dimensions (mm): Specimen M.91.23. (Text-fig. 24) length: 13.5, width: 12.0, thickness: 8.7. Description - External characters: Medium-sized shell, subtriangular in outline. The sides of triangle are slightly convex, the base is straight. The angle between the lateral margins is about 120°. The length is greater than the width while the thickness is twothirds of the length. Biconvex form. The maximum width is situated at the anterior margin, the maximum convexity is at half of the length. There are two poorly developed beak ridges on the pedicle valve. The anterior commissure is sulcate. The sulcus is large, its depth is nearly equal to the total thickness. The width of sulcus is one-third of the total width. The sulcus develops at about half length and corresponds to a fold on the pedicle valve. Its cross-section is angular at the anterior margin. The shell surface is smooth. Internal characters: There were no adequate specimens available for serial sectioning due to the paucity of the material. Remarks: Linguithyris linguata was first described by Böckh (1874) from the southern Bakony. According to Böckh, it is similar to L. beyrichi. However, L. beyrichi is pentagonal while L. linguata is triangular in outline. L. linguata also resembles L. aspasia but the sulcus of the latter is arched and the edges of sulcus are less marked. Distribution: According to Almeras (1964), L. linguata is Late Sinemurian to Early Pliensbachian in age. Its occurence in the Lower and Middle Sinemurian is uncertain. Vörös (1982) mentioned L. linguata from the Upper Sinemurian and - Haas: p. 25, pi. 4, fig. 5. Text-fig. 24 - Drawing of Linguithyris linguata
