Vörös A. szerk.: Fragmenta Mineralogica Et Palaentologica 15. 1992. (Budapest, 1992)

Distribution: According to Aimeras (1964), L. sylvia is Sinemurian in age, its occurrence in the Pliensbachian is uncertain. The species was reported from the Northern Appennines (Monte Pisano), Sicily (Bellolampo) and the Bakony Mountains. Liospiriferina cf. brevirostris (OPPEL, 1861) (Pl. Ill, Fig. 5; Text-fig. 20) 1861 Spiriferina brevirostris n.sp. - Oppel: p. 541, pi. 11, fig. 6. 1889 Spiriferina brevirostris OPPEL - Geyer: p. 73, pi. 8, figs. 9-12. 1895 Spiriferina brevirostris OPPEL - Fucini: p. 154, pi. 6, fig. 5. Material: 1 incomplete specimen. Dimensions (mm): Specimen M.91.19. (Text-fig. 20) length: 23.8, width: 21.2, thickness: 13.6. Description - External characters'. Large shell, circular in outline. The length is greater than the width while the thickness is half of the length. The angle between the lateral margins is about 80°. Biconvex form. The pedicle valve is more convex than the brachial one, which is nearly flat. The maximum width is situated at half of the length, Text-fig. 20 - Drawing of the maximum convexity is at the poste- Liospiriferina cf. brevirostris rior third. The umbo of pedicle valve is absent while the beak is very small. The lateral commissures are straight. The anterior commissure has a weak uniplication. The width of plica is one-quarter of the total width while the height of plica is very small. The shell surface is slightly costate at the commissures. Internal characters: There were no adequate specimens available for serial sectioning due to the paucity of the material. Remarks: Liospiriferina brevirostris is similar to L. alpina differing in its more curved beak, narrower and smaller interarea and less convex brachial valve. The uncertainty in our identification is due to the absence of beak. However, the curvature of beak can be inferred from the curvature of pedicle valve. Distribution: According to Aimeras (1964), L. brevirostris is Sinemurian in age. Vörös (1982) mentioned L. cf. brevirostris from the Stokesi Zone (Pliensbachian) of the Bakony Mountains. Apart from the Bakony Mountains, this species is known from the Eastern Alps (Hierlatz) and the Northern Appennines (Monte Pisano).
