Linguithyris cornicolana and Apringia ? altesinuata (though the latter occurs in the up­per part of the L. kohdai zone too). An important feature of this zone is the locally abundant occurrence of the concavo-convex Koninckinids ( Koninckodonta , Amphiclinodon­ta) . Time-span: Amaltheus stokesi Zone to Pleuroceras spinatum Zone (Domerian sub­stage). Theoretically, it is hardly justified to develop a new brachiopod zonal scheme be­side the existing more precise, well-proved ammonoid biozones. In practice, however, there are localities in the Bakony Mts. and in other parts of the Mediterranean region where the brachiopods are more frequent and more easy to collect than the ammonoids. In these cases, in the first phases of geological mapping, very useful stratigraphical in­formation can be obtained by means of brachiopods. REFERENCES BEUDANT, F.-S.
