The equatorial sections shows 4 whorls in a radius of 1.5 mm. The septa are for the most part straight, except in the uppermost part slightly recurved. The height of the chambers is much larger than their width, the height/width ratio being 3:1. They are 10, 17, 22, 26 chambers in the four whorls respectively. Occurence: This species characterises the uppermost beds of Gabal El Shaghab. Distribution: DAVIES recorded this species from the Lower Eocene of the Punjab Salt Range, as well as from the Lower Eocene of the Ranikot beds, India. Stratigraphie position: Lower Ypresian. Assilina ranikot NUTTAL, 1926 (pl. 1, figs. 4, 5, 6; pi. 3, fig. 4) 1926 Assilina ranikoti NUTTAL, p. 117, pi. 10, figs. 7-11. Testsmail, lenticular to globular, with sharp boarder. Average diameter = 2.7 mm and the average thickness = 0.7 mm. Externally the ornamentation consists of prominent granules. The granules in the centre are very strong and often clustered together. The last whorl Is frequently devoid of granules. The equatorial section shows 3 whorls in a radius of 1.3 mm. The septa are gently curved. The chambers are thus almost rectangular in shape, and about twice as high as long. Occurence: A . ranikoti appears in considerable number in the Thebes Formation of Gabal El Shaghab. Distribution: This species was described by Nuttal from the Upper Ranikot Series (Lower Eocene), India. Age: Ypresian. Assilina subsplnosa DAVIES 1937 (pl. 1, fig. 13; pi. 2, fig. 4; pi. 3, fig. 3) 1937 Assilina subsplnosa DAVIES, p. 33, pi. 4, fig3. 19, 20, 23-26. Test medium complanate, involute, composed of 3 coils. The surface is covered with close set of granules covering the whole central part of the test. The granules are either isolated or combined into a kind of spiral band. There is a larger median tubercle at the pole of the test. Diameter: 3.8 mm; thickness: 0.6.mm. The equatorial section shows a distinctly more tightly coiled spire. The septa are generally nearly spaced, straight. The chambers are about twice as high as long. The axial section shows the acute periphery, the enveloping whorls and the distinct coarser granules. Occurence: This species is very common in the Thebes Formation of Gabal El Shaghab, appearing in company with Nummulites atacicus , N. globulus , N . solitarius ; Operculina jiwani and Assilina dandotica .
