7. Globorotalia aequa / G. narginodentata zone (Ypresian) This zone extends through the marly limestone above the Esna Shale. In thin sections it is very difficult to determine the different species of Globorotalia in this zone, but it is characterized by the flood of the two distinguished species of G. aequa and G. marginodentata. This zone is recorded by HILLEBRANDT (1965) from the Ilerdian of Spain. It is equivalent with the Globorotalia rex zone in Trinidad (BOLLI, 1957). This zone is identical with G. margino- dentata subzone of SUBBOTINA (1953) from Caucasus, in the same time it is equivalent with zone "G" of HILLEBRANDT from the Basin of Reichenhall and Salzburg (1962), also it is equivalent with G. rex zone of BOLLI & CITA (i960) from the Ypresian of Italy. This zone can be correlated with Globorotalia aequa zone of LUTERBACHER (1964) from the Ilerdian of the Central Apennines. It is equivalent with the G. aequa / G. esnaensis sub zone of EL NAGGAR (1966) from the Esna / Idfu region, Nile Valley, Egypt . The limestone and flinty limestone beds which cap the succession has not yielded any identifiable planktonic foraminifera. Systematic description Order Foraminiferida Superf amily Globigerinacea CARPENTER, PARKER & JONES 1862 Family Heterohelicidae CUSHMAN 1927 Subfamily Guembelitriinae MONTANARO GALLITELLI 1957 Genus Guembelitria CUSHMAN 1933 Guembelitria cretacea CUSHMAN (pl. 1. fig. 3; pl. 8. fig. 1.)
