Test big, of three whorls, with 3 1/2 loosely coiled chambers each. Chambers spherical, rapidly growing. Trochospire high. Test elongate In the direction of the diagonal across the last chamber. Sutures largely depressed, radial on both the ventral and the dorsal surfaces. Umbilicus small, filled with sediment. Aperture is a low arch, well developed, with a triangle-shaped flap. On the test-wall the "beecell" structure is clearly visible. Note. Hagn and Lindenberg (I966) observed continuous passage from Globigerina eocaena to G. corpulenta and to Globigerina gortanii. G. corpulenta differs from G. eocaena with its higher trochospire and with its better developed apertural flap. Compared to Globigerinita gortanii, the trochospire is lower, and there are only 3 1/2 chambers in one whorl (not four). According to Subbotina (1953) the presence of an abortive last chamber is a frequent phenomenon. Occurrence. Kenawy (1968) stated its presence in the basal Upper Oligocène Globigerina ampliapertura Zone at Eger (NE-Hungary ). It is very rare in the Buda Marl; only two specimens have been found in the Cylindroclavulina cylindrica Zone of the Budapest region.
