The collection was found

3d by a piece of iron of Lénártó, the gift of József Kapy, in 1815. Since then two catalogues were made of the collection. The first was composed by Andor Semsey - the great Maecenas of the Hungarian geological sciences - published in Hungarian and German language in 1868 (A Magyar Nemzeti Múzeum Meteorit-gyűjteménye - lie Meteoritensammlung des Ungarischen National-Museums

, Budapest). The second meteorite catalogue being the work of László Tokody et Mária Dudich née Yendl published in Hungarian and English in 1951 (Magyarország meteoritgyüjteményei - Meteorite Collections in Hungary). This book itemized besides the collection of the Museum - then containing 1295 pieces of 484 localities (falls and finds) - the stock of the meteorite collections of the Eötvös Lóránd University of Budapest, the Technical University of Budapest, the Calvinist College of Debrecen, and the Jósa András Museum of Nyíregyháza. The compilation of the present catalogue was made possible or hastened by several circumstances. First of all we should mention the sad decrease in the number of the collection. As it is known
