Catalogue of Meteorites of the Hungarian Natural History Museum By Csaba RAVASZ Hungarian Natural History Museum Mineralogicai-Petrological Department, Budapest Introduction The meteorite collection of the Hungarian Natural History Museum (former Hungarian National Museum) is kept and managed by the Mi­neralogical-Petrographical Department. The collection was found 3d by a piece of iron of Lénártó, the gift of József Kapy, in 1815. Since then two catalogues were made of the collection. The first was composed by Andor Semsey - the great Maecenas of the Hungarian geological sciences - published in Hungarian and German language in 1868 (A Magyar Nemzeti Múzeum Meteorit-gyűjteménye - lie Mete­oritensammlung des Ungarischen National-Museums , Budapest). The second meteorite catalogue being the work of László Tokody et Mária Dudich née Yendl published in Hungarian and English in 1951 (Magyarország meteoritgyüjteményei - Meteorite Collections in Hungary). This book itemized besides the collection of the Mu­seum - then containing 1295 pieces of 484 localities (falls and finds) - the stock of the meteorite collections of the Eötvös Lóránd University of Budapest, the Technical University of Buda­pest, the Calvinist College of Debrecen, and the Jósa András Mu­seum of Nyíregyháza. The compilation of the present catalogue was made possible or hastened by several circumstances. First of all we should mention the sad decrease in the number of the collection. As it is known
