He was the instructor of the children of Palatine Joseph. His first work in connection with Hungary was published in 1846 and its subject were Hungary's archaeological finds. He published a historical guide of Pest-Buda in 1847 and he worked together with Miklós Szerelmey on books dealing with the history of Hungary. The mid 19 t h century was a period for albums of landscapes, and Häufler had his share in this type of publications as well: a good example of this was the Visegrád Album. His works were always based on scientific research concerning the subject and illustrations had an important task in them. His activity was a good example of collective works in Austrian and Hungarian cultural history. 241
