Spain to Turkey, and is common in southern Italy, between March and May. Adults of both sexes have been taken from the flowers of a wide range of plants, particularly Crataegus and other Rosaceae. PELIKÁN (1955) published a further interesting datum regarding its distribution: it was collected in the Czech Republic in the surroundings of Kotel (Moravia), in a xerothermic rocky steppe of a national park, from the flowers of Crataegus monogyna. The first Hungarian specimen, a female, was collected from the flowers of Pyrus communis, in Budapest, Vöröskő-vár, on 25.IV.2005. In 2007 further specimens were found in flowers of Crataegus monogyna in Budapest, Vöröskő-vár, on 23.IV. (two females, one male), Kis-Sváb-hegy, on 1. V. (two females), Tamási on 29.IV. (three females); in flowers of Malus domestica in Budapest, Széchenyi-hegy, on 22.IV. (two females, one male); in flowers of Pyrus communis in Budapest, Vöröskő-vár on 25.IV. (three females, one male). The specimens were collected by L. KAZINCZY. Oxythrips priesneri PELIKÁN, 1957 - It was recorded for the first time from Southern Moravia near Mikulov from Pinus nigra in calcareous steppe vegetation, on 31 .V. 1955. Further specimens were collected in South Slovakia on a karstic area (PELIKÁN 1957). It is known to occur in Greece, South Germany and Turkey. ZUR STRASSEN (2003) mentioned its occurrence in Hungary, but the relevant collecting data were not published. I have found it in flowering male cones of Pinus sylvestris in the Pilis Mountains at Pilisszentlászló (high number of males and females) on 28.IV. 1994, ofPinus nigra at Pilisborosjenő (seven females, one male) on 2.V.1999. Later it was found in male cones oiPinus nigra in the Great Hungarian Plain on sandy soil at Kiskunhalas (ten females, two males) on 25.IV. 1999). Pelikanothrips kratochvili (PELIKÁN, 1947) - Its first specimens were collected from the undergrowth in the bog of Rejviz in the Jesenik Mts (Czech Republic). According to PELIKÁN (1947) it is associated with Carex. Further specimens were recorded in the Netherlands, at the surroundings of Wolvega (FRANSSEN & MANTEL 1963,1964), in Poland and in northwestern Germany (ZUR STRASSEN 2003). I have collected five females in a bog at Vászoly at the Balaton Upland, from Carex elata on 30.IV. 2007. Scolothrips uzeli SCHILLE, 1911 - It is a monophagous species known from Austria, Poland, the Netherlands, Russia (European part) and Scandinavia. It was collected from Juniperus communis (PRIESNER 1964, DYADECHKO 1964,JACOT-GUILLARMOD 1974, ZUR STRASSEN 2003). JACOT-GUILLARMOD (1974) mentioned it from Hungary, but the relevant collecting data were not published. I have collected three females and one male in the Danube-Tisza Interfluve, on Juniperus communis, on sandy soil at Orgovány on 30.V.1994, and further three females were captured by window trap in a Juniperus communis stand at Orgovány on 18.VIII.2003. Thrips juniperinus LINNAEUS, 1758 - It is a Palaearctic species, occurring in the mountains on Juniperus communis. It was described and recorded as Thrips carpathicus by KNECHTEL (1948) from Sinaia (South Carpathians, Romania). I have collected specimens from Juniperus communis in Hungary in the Bükk Mountains, on the Bükk Plateau, at 859 m a.s.L, where numerous other Carpathian elements of insects are known to occur.
