The only known Palaearctic Dryocosmus species that can lack irradiating striae in the malar space of the head in some specimens is Dryocosmus kuriphilus YASUMATSU, 1951, known as a severe pest of chestnuts, and which was recently introduced to Europe (Italy) (BRUSSINO et al. 2002, 2003). However, the wasp of the latter is entirely black, the scutellum Figs 86-92. Dryocosmus tavakolii sp. n.: 86 = scutum, dorsal view, 87 = scutellum, dorsal view, 88 = mesosoma, lateral view, 89 = metanotum and propodeum, dorsal view, 90 - metasoma, lateral view, 91 = ventral spine of hypopygium, ventral view, 92 = gall with emergence holes (photo by G.
