FOLIA ENTOMOLOGICA HUNGARICA ROVARTANI KÖZLEMÉNYEK Volume 64 2003 pp. 63-68. The larva and life history of Rhabdiopteryx hamulata Klapálek, 1902 (Plecoptera: Taeniopterygidae) T. KOVÁCS and A. WEINZIERL Abstract: Larvae of Rhabdiopteryx hamulata Klapálek, 1902 were found in the Mátra Mountains (Northern Hungary). The larvae of this species and R. thienemanni lilies, 1957 are compared, and the most important distinguishing characters are illustrated. New information about life cycle, habits and habitat is given. Species of Ephemeroptera, Odonata and Plecoptera collected together with R. hamulata are listed. Key words: Plecoptera, Taeniopterygidae, Rhabdiopteryx hamulata, distribution, faunistic, larva description, habitat, life history, community, Hungary INTRODUCTION Rhabdiopteryx hamulata Klapálek, 1902 was recorded from Hungary (Klapálek 1902, Újhelyi 1969, 1975) and Bulgaria (Braasch & Joost 1975) only. Records published by Rauser (1965) from Slovakia are regarded erroneous by Krno (2003). The last reports on the occurrence of this species were published more than 20 years ago. The species is assigned to the "thienemanni-group" by lilies (1957). Besides Rhabdiopteryx hamulata, the group includes Rhabdiopteryx thienemanni lilies, 1957 known from Spain (lilies 1957), Portugal (Zwick 1972) and France (Dumont 1984), and/?, triangularis Braasch et Joost, 1972 from Bulgaria (see Krno 2003). Újhelyi (1975) published a number of capture data of adults from the Börzsöny Mountains (Northern Hungary), but he could not find larvae ("Meine weiteren Aufgaben bleiben die Larve von hamulata aufzufinden und die Verbreitung des Tieres festzustellen."). Braasch & Joost (1975) reported data of larvae from Bulgaria, but description was not given.
