S. Mahunka szerk.: Folia Entomologica Hungarica 64. (Budapest, 2003)
- Scutum coriaceous or with weak not interrupted transverse rugae (Figs 12A-C); pedicel as broad as long; frons with or without punctures 15 13. Median mesoscutal impression extended at least to 1/2-3/4 of scutum (Fig. 10E), frontal carinae strong and complete; pedicel usually as broad as long; all flagellomeres of the same width; Fl in female slightly broadened apically (Fig. 1 IF); in male very strongly expanded apically (Fig. 11C) S. incrassatus Hartig, 1840 - Median mesoscutal impression extended at most to 1/4 of scutum (Figs 10C-D); frontal carinae weak and incomplete; pedicel longer than broad; all flagellomeres clearly tapered distally; shape of Fl different in both sexes (Figs 11D-E, G-H) 14 14. Notauli reach to 1/4 of scutum (Fig. 10C); radial cell 3.0 times as long as wide, Rs slightly curved (Fig. 1 IB); face red to yellow in male; red brown to black with some red area around mouth and lower gena in female; legs yellow to yellow-brown, hind and sometimes midcoxae black S. apicalis Hartig, 1841 2 - Notauli reach to 3/4 of scutum (fig. 10D); radial cell 2.1-2.7 times as long as wide, sometimes opened, Rs strongly curved (Fig. 11 A); face black in both sexes, except some red area sometimes around mouth; legs mostly dark brown to black, coxae black, femur partially black S. tibialis Hartig, 1840 (= rotundiventris Mayr, 1882, syn. n.) (2) 15. Frons coriaceous, with some shallow punctures and vertex conspicuously punctate or punctate and rugulose (Figs 9C-D); median mesoscutal impression extended at least to 3/4 of scutum, broad posteriorly (Fig. 12A); face usually yellow to orange red or red; antenna and legs entirely yellow or yellow-red 16 - Frons and vertex coriaceous or coriaceous-rugulose, not punctuate or very occasionally with sparse indistinct punctures (Figs 9E, F); median mesoscutal impression shallow, narrow and extended to half or less of scutum (Fig. 12B); face black except in S. consobrinus; antenna and legs darker, coxae usually black 18 2 Synergus apicalis and S. tibialis (= rotundiventris, syn. n., see Appendixes 2 and 3) are very closely related species and, thus morphological limits are not always clear. In S. apicalis the punctation is less conspicuous, frontal carinae are shorter and the female metasoma is nearly flat-topped, while in S. tibialis the punctation is usually more conspicuous, frontal carinae are longer and the female metasoma curved.
